The Southern Utah University Museum of Natural History is a small museum located in the Life Science Building of the University, and offers exhibits with wildlife displays of local animals from in and around Cedar City. Exhibits contain Golden Eagles, minerals, and fossils of the region.
The Southern Utah University Museum of Natural History offers visitors, especially those with families and children, a great opportunity to learn about the different aspects of the local wildlife of Utah through educational and exciting displays and exhibits.
This museum is unique because it works in collaboration with the natural science students at the University to help educate visitors to the region and the museum concerning the issues surrounding the natural history of Utah.
Specific programs set up for school-aged children allow families to get involved in the learning process and truly become involved with the material and information presented. The program lets SUU students teach elementary grade children about animals.
The Live Animals Experience, or Animals for Education, visits several Cedar City elementary schools each week during the school year to keep local residents up to date on the animals and wildlife that populate Utah.
But the museum has more than just wildlife displays – learn about specimens from southern Utah, such as fossils, local archaeology, and other items such as seashells and minerals.
Several exhibits contain live animals as well, including canyon tree frogs, tarantulas, snakes, and tiger salamanders.
Admission to the Museum of Natural History is free, so it's perfect for families traveling on a tight budget. The University is located at 351 West University Boulevard, Cedar City, Utah.
