American Children's Christmas Festival

Cedar City, Utah is also known as Festival City, USA and for good reason. They have many wonderful festivals throughout the year, including their unique Christmas celebrations which include The American Children's Christmas Festival. Get in the holiday spirit and spread some cheer in Cedar City this year.

Event Details:

The 13th annual Cedar City Storybook Cavalcade holiday parade will be presented on Saturday, Nov. 14, according to Storybook Cavalcade Foundation parade and event chair, Joyce Messer. This annual event ushers in the holiday season in Cedar City.

Santa Claus is coming to Cedar City by helicopter courtesy of Upper Limit Aviation, who made the long flight to the North Pole to allow Santa to appear in the parade. Santa will fly up and down the parade route in a helicopter prior to the parade's start.  Children of all ages can wave a hearty welcome to Santa.    

The Storybook Cavalcade, the largest parade in southern Utah, will include the participation of more than 400 costumed characters, 30 floats, five bands, and a variety of walking groups. Enjoy the music listening to bands from Cedar High School, Canyon View High School, Parowan High School, Cedar Middle School and Canyon View Middle School will all perform at the parade.

The Storybook Cavalcade will begin at 2:00 p.m. (the warmest hour of the day) at 200 South on Main Street and will end at 400 North.  Children participating in the parade will be dropped at the library after the parade. The parade committee urges those attending the parade to dress warmly.  

Grand Marshals for this year's parade are the characters from Star Wars whose much awaited movie opens in December. New this year is an inflatable Darth Vader who will float down the street. Other infallibles will include: Superman, Batman, Spider-man, Transformer, Wolverine, and Green Lantern. Rudolph the Red Nose reindeer and a black cat, representing Halloween will also float down the street.

Prominently featured will be Elsa and Anna from the Disney movie, "Frozen," the highest-grossing animated film of all time. They will be escorted by six toy soldiers and an inflatable Olaf the snowman. Also featured in the parade are appearances by the Avengers as well as the Roadrunner, Wyle E. Coyote, and Tazz on the Looney Tunes float and a Music Box Float.

Also to be present will be Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Donald and Daisy Duck, and Pluto and Goofy, driving special cars.

Floats, many depicting childhood stories, will be themed to Snow White, The Wizard of Oz, Peter Pan, The Little Engine That Could, The Old Woman and the Shoe, Treasure Island, Where the Wild Things Are, Pinocchio, the Three Little Pigs, Old McDonald's Farm, Billy Goat Gruff, It's a Small World, The Nutcracker, and Tarzan.

Overview: The American Children's Christmas Festival in Cedar City makes for a holiday season not to be forgotten. The festival starts at the end of November and goes all the way through the Christmas holiday. The Storybook Cavalcade parade marches down Main Street not once, not twice but three times throughout the fest. The Enchanted Forest is a forest filled with childhood favorites. The Celebration of Trees features 22 exquisitely decorated designer trees. Santaland, Cedar City's version of the North Pole, comes complete with the jolly old soul himself.

Details: There are many song and dance numbers at the Heritage Center in the evenings to wind your snow filled days with. Getting to the Heritage Center is easy. 

Cedar City is just beyond Exit 59 off of Interstate 15. Once off the ramp, turn east on 200 North, cross over Main Street and go south on 100 East. Park your vehicle at the four-story parking terrace and get ready to behold the magic of Christmas once you cross over the threshold of the Heritage Center Theater entrance.
