Southern Utah has excellent fly-fishing waters and the best part, is that they are not well known. As a result, while you are seeking that "big one" you will not be elbow to elbow with other avid anglers. Southern Utah's excellent fly fishing waters have only recently begun to receive the notice they deserve.
If you are contemplating a fly-fishing trip in the near future, you should definitely consider traveling to Southern Utah. Southern Utah has many good trout streams many of which are known for the large brown trout and rainbow trout found in their waters. In addition, some areas including the East Fork of the Sevier River, north of Bryce Canyon is a good place to catch browns, cutthroats and rainbows. Panguitch Creek below Panguitch Lake and the Beaver River near Beaver are also popular streams in the south.
If you'd rather try your luck at lake fishing, there are numerous lakes in Southern Utah just waiting for you to cast your line into their waters. Forty miles southeast of Richfield, Fish Lake has long been famous for Mackinaw, and rainbow trout. Johnson Reservoir, seven miles northwest of Fish Lake, and Gooseberry Reservoir, twelve miles northeast of Fairview, have excellent trout fishing from the bank. The various reservoirs are good for boat fishing. Panquitch Lake is a great spot to catch a trophy size trout.
Therefore, when considering a fly-fishing trip, don't count Southern Utah out.
