Overview

Many cities have swimming pools but around Southern Utah there are many popular lakes and rivers for swimming. However caution should be taken as some rivers have strong currents or have contaminants and water-borne bacteria. Visitor Centers are the best place to get good advice for finding safe swimming spots around Bryce Canyon.

City Swimming Pools

  • Cedar City
The Cedar City swimming pool and hydrotube is a popular family pool on W. Harding Ave in Cedar City. Swim or slide every day except Sunday when it is closed.
  • St George
St George has an Aquatic Center on Lava Flow Drive and a Municipal swimming pool on East 700 South.
  • Washington
Also in the St George area there is a public swimming pool on North 200 East, Washington, just off I-15.
  • Panguitch
Panguitch Community Pool is at 250 East Center and opening times vary. Check before visiting by calling 435-676-1325.

Lakes

  • Salt Lake
Salt Lake is a long drive from Bryce Canyon for swimming but it is the most famous. Even non-swimmers can float due to the high salt content.
  • Utah Lake
Just east of Salt Lake City is Utah Lake. This popular spot even has lifeguards during the summer.
  • Deer Creek
Deer Creek State Park has various lakes and some rivers which are good for swimming.
  • Piute Reservoir
Situated in the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, the reservoir is considered one of the best spots in Utah for swimming
  • Yuba Lake State Park
Yuba lake has excellent swimming beaches on the eastern shore with lifeguards and amenities to rival any west coast beach!

Swimming Holes

  • Lower Calf Creek Falls
After a warm 90 minute hike to the Lower Calf Creek Falls, a swim is the perfect end to the trail. The crystal clear waters of Calf Creek drop 130 feet down a rocky sandstone cliff to form a deep pool of swirling water. Jump in and take a well-earned swim in this refreshing desert oasis. There is a pleasant beach for children. From Escalante, Utah follow Highway 12 northeast for 14.4 miles to the prominently signed Calf Creek Recreation Area.

Hotels

  • Many hotels and motels have swimming pools and some campgrounds have pool facilities.
