Zion NP

Once covered by the sea, Zion National Park made an incredible re-appearance with amazing geologic formations made of ancient shale and limestone. Travel with the family to a most wondrous park where rivers and wind have shaped an unusual landscape that must become a part of every vacation itinerary.

Zion National Park is a display of the eons of action by sea, wind and river paths. Rocks hold fossils of sea creatures, bones, trees and the tracks of animals seeking food in the plains. There are now close to 800 native species of plants and over 285 species of birds in Zion. The desert dwellers include the roadrunner, quail and sparrow. You may even spot a mountain lion or mule deer in this "Land of the Rainbow Canyons."

You can see the famous red and orange canyons by hiking, biking or on horseback. Swim the Virgin River, climb the walls of the canyons. A favorite is to take off backpacking. River running is also popular. Take guided tours of all types. There is no lack of things to do.

Zion Lodge will provide accommodations all year in their motel rooms and cabins. In local communities you will find other lodging if you prefer. Camping is always an option.

To or from Bryce Canyon is only a short drive. You should plan your trip to see both in one day. From Bryce Canyon National Park, take UT-12 to US-89 then right on UT-9 to Kolob Road and follow the signs.
