Golfing is a very popular after work activity for most locals, and draws in some tourists who are looking for something more relaxing to do than hike the nearby trails. In fact its most prestigious one is located on the outskirts of the city at Cedar Ridge.

Cedar Ridge has won many awards. It offers an 18-hole range with over six thousand yards of greenery. The course itself is not the top in the country, but according to experts has some of the best blue grass in the industry, though it is considered to be average as far as challenges are concerned.

It was first opened in the sixties by a John Evans, who was famous for his many course designs. In fact, it has been greatly added to since then. A club house offers a restaurant, bar, event rooms, rental services and even instruction, all overlooking the nearby deserts and mountains that surround this lush oasis. However, be warned, local wildlife is starting to reclaim it. Gophers are becoming an interesting challenge on some fairways, making getting a golf ball into a furry filled hole less than enticing. In fact, the mess some of these harmless rodents have caused to the greens is becoming more and more noticeable – great rolls and humps are starting to appear.
